Creative Possibilities provides adult education in James Lee House, a 54 bed male hostel in Howley, Warrington and a YMCA Centre. All learners are at risk of social exclusion.

We have 30 years of collective experience. We are trying to find the hooks to motivate residents/learners with chaotic lives who can have many barriers to learning. We have developed a way of working that uses multimedia with methodologies that draws on a range of theoretical perspectives. Projects are set up in consultation with the groups and artists/tutors. We explore ideas that work on a number of different levels on a theme /issue relevant to the students’ circumstances and experiences.

Skills developed at the centre include embedded literacies within all the following areas; IT, craft & design, digital storytelling, ceramics, photography, drawing, textiles, web radio, upholstery, internet.

Our aim is to promote inclusion, confidence & empowerment.  Growth in self-esteem from new found skills, new identities, development of selfhood, a sense of belonging, working together developing from ongoing support offered by the group and partner organisations.

We have been invited to share the outcomes of our work at several RaPAL conferences , Homeless Link and the Salvation Army Hostel Awards.
